Hurricanes lack in stats and finances

In jeopardy of not making the playoffs for the third straight season and seeing an impact in the finances, the Lethbridge Hurricanes are brainstorming ways to make their franchise more successful.

From the start of the season to the end of November, the team’s revenue has been below targets. Walk up tickets were lower than expected, season ticket promotions were off by 25 per cent and the new video scoreboard has taken half a season to develop.

At recent Hurricanes shareholders meeting members began looking at ways to improve the franchise both on and off the ice.

Varying ticket packages have been discussed as well as possibly working closely with the University of Lethbridge’s men’s hockey team on game days.

Shareholders have also suggested using the Lethbridge College video board along Scenic Drive to promote Hurricanes home games.

“Right now, we’re looking for anything we can do to make this club stronger financially. We’re committed to delivering value and we’re committed to delivering a terrific in-game experience,” comments Jim Bradley, Hurricanes business manager.

“But we have to do that with strong product mix, that’s really what it comes down to. Our product mix, specifically with tickets.”
