Huskies mush their way consolation game

Story by Greg Bobinec

The Keyano Huskies fought hard for the win in their second game at the ACAC championships against the Red Deer Kings. The 89-80 win was primarily brought on by player of the game, Chris Oppong who sunk 19 points and assisted on eight more.

Both teams coming off of a loss in the first game, lit a match under the two teams to fight for a higher position in the standings. The game started out with an even battle on the court with the Kings sneaking in a few three-point shots, but the Huskies defence kept them on top by a few points each quarter.

The Kings third year guard, Spencer Klassen struggled to keep his team’s communication clear through the third quarter where they found a further separation in points from the Huskies.

First year King, Solon Ellis took the spotlight from his senior teammates with his elongated three-point hits raking in four of them within the first half. Ellis sneaked his way around the court to also bring in 18 points and four rebounds for the Kings final game.

The Huskies had a tough battle between the SAIT Trojans the other night but cleaned up their patterns and communication to push the points further than the Kings. In the final quarter their communication pushed high sinking 13 straight points to build a lead hard enough to defeat.

The underdog Keyano Huskies have progressed their way to their final game for the fight for fifth place Saturday, March 3, at 3 p.m.
