A student athlete thanks Lethbridge College and the Kodiaks as he recalls his years playing for the team. Kuljeet Singh Khangura is an international student who played for the Kodiaks’ indoor track team for the last two years.
Back in India, he participated in a national competition winning a runner-up and even a gold medal, before coming to Canada. He has been playing for the Kodiaks for two years ever since.
He hopes to play with the Kodiaks one last time at the 2021 Pandas Open track meet, if given the chance.
However, it is unclear if the non-conference game will occur due to COVID-19, possibly marking the end of his career with the team.
“I’m totally going to miss the Kodiaks. It’s the best team I’ve ever [had],” said Khangura.
Despite being an international student, Khangura also never felt singled out, having made friends and connections with those who supported him along the way.
“Next year, I’m going to move to Vancouver. Then surely, I’m going to miss them. Because I spent two years with them. Every day we go to practice together and even in the college, they helped me with my studies when I had troubles.”
Khangura said he’s also very grateful for Simon Schaerz, the indoor track and cross country head coach for the Kodiaks for helping him improve his performance and athleticism as an athlete.
“He’s [Schaerz] really good and [treated] you like family. You’ll never feel alone,” said Khangura. “You can just share anything.”
Khangura is hoping to move to Vancouver to study business after finishing general studies in Lethbridge to start his new adventure.
