Issues with iOS6 Maps

Apple is trying to catch up to the very popular Google Maps in its new operating system, iOS 6, with Apple Maps. It has been met with some controversy from users who have had complaints or ran into glitches.

Online you can find many examples of dilapidated monuments like the “rollercoaster Manhattan Bridge” or complaints about locations being in the wrong places. Even Stephen Colbert has made jokes saying now that he is using Apple maps, his studio can be found in Norway.

Personally I haven’t found many issues using the new map app myself. The satellite view still has issues with clouds blocking half of Lethbridge, and it seems like the photos were taken during some sort of thunderstorm.

I like how colourful the road map is on my iPad and iPhone. Another plus is how they added a turn-by-turn voice, like a GPS, to the app.

I wish they had added support for the voice navigation for the iPhone 4 though. It is kind of ridiculous that Apple would expect me to bring my large iPad 2 with me in my car.

I wouldn’t be surprised if in a couple months, Apple was to come out with a new update that would fix most of the issues that people are complaining about.

Apple Maps is okay if you aren’t expecting a smooth experience like Google Maps. Google has had years to buff out the issues that Apple is facing now.
