Joe Mauro, who served three terms on council before running unsuccessfully for mayor in 2004, topped the polls for aldermen with 12,962 votes.
Bob Babki, a former chairman of the Lethbridge College board of governors, finished second with 11,440. Bridget Mearns, who was third, and Faron Ellis also won council seats for the first time.
Ryan Parker, who led the polls for aldermen in 2007, finished fourth with 8,489.
Former alderman Liz Iwaskiw, after taking time off from civic politics, also won a seat.
Other incumbents who retained their seats were Jeff Carlson and Tom Wickersham who edged out former alderman Jeffrey Coffman for the eighth and final spot.
The most senior incumbent, Shaun Ward, who had been on council since 1992, was defeated in his bid for a seventh term, finishing 13th.
Two other incumbents, Margaret Simmons and Ken Tratch, were defeated in their bids for a second term.
All seven candidates for the board for Lethbridge School District 51 were acclaimed. They are Gary Bartlett, Lola Major, Mich Forster, Jan Foster, Brooke Culley, Keith Fowler and Dennis Wickham.
In the race for the Holy Spirit school board, elected were Sandra Dufresne, Bosco Baptista, Bob Spitzig, Bryan Kranzler and Danny Ponjavic.
According to the City of Lethbridge, the number of eligible voters totaled 69,863.
