The annual Alberta Magazine Publishers Association conference provides a great opportunity for journalism students to learn from the industry’s top talent.
But it turned out to be a great opportunity for the industry to recognize one of the students here at Lethbridge College.
Kayla Nash, who has volunteered for Lethbridge living magazine for two years, and finishing up her second year of the Print Journalism program, was given the volunteer of the year award at a gala dinner last Thursday.
Although a lady at registration almost gave it away, Kayla knew she was nominated by Lethbridge living’s editor-in-chief Jenn Schmidt-Rempel, and was still surprised when her name was announced.
Her start with the magazine came through an interesting opportunity. Prior to print journalism, Nash was in the Fashion Design and Marketing program. Lethbridge living has had an annual feature on the fashion program, and she was able to connect with the magazine through that.
Fast forward to today, and it’s been two years of continuing to put in hard work and dedication. That work-ethic pays off in the magazine industry, exemplified by the numerous speakers and lecturers who made sure the attendees received a lot of great information by these internationally recognized experts.
They all got their start by putting in the work, and getting the recognition from their peers. That bodes well for Nash, as we at the Endeavour are proud to have her as part of the team.
