Kimosop sprints to first road win

Beating out some of the fastest runners in Canada is exactly what one Lethbridge College Kodiak did.

The Vancouver Harry Spring’s 8 km race, held last week, was won by none other than the Kodiaks’ Willy Kimosop.

Kimosop earned the win by sprinting the last 300m neck and neck with Kingston’s Dylan Wykes. Kimosop won by just under three seconds.

His time was one and a half minutes faster than he ran at the cross country Nationals in Camrose back in November. This is the first time Kimosop ran it in 23:42.7, mostly due to a flatter course.

Kimosop is a first year Exercise Science student at LC and has been living in Lethbridge for three years, and in that time has made a name for himself as one of the best runners in Canada as well as Lethbridge.

Kimosop’s next race will be the indoor provincials with the Kodiaks. He, along with Kip and Ed Kangogo, are slated to run various races in Alberta, B.C. and Ontario this spring.

Malindi Elmore, 2010 Canadian Olympian, won the women’s category in under 27 minutes.
