King’s Speech leads Oscar pack

The 83rd Academy Award Oscar nominations were announced last Tuesday and there is going to be a close call for the winner considering the quality of the nominees.

The King’s Speech starring Colin Firth and directed by Tom Hooper has the most nominations this year with a total of 12. Some of those nominations include best picture, best directing and art direction.

Colin Firth was nominated for his performance in the film for actor in a leading roll. As well, his co-stars Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter are nominated for best supporting actor and actress.

Closely following The King’s Speech, True Grit has 11 nominees in many of the same categories.

Trailing behind closely with eight nominations is The Social Network starring Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. Eisenberg is also nominated for best actor in the film.

Other films up for best picture include Black Swan, Inception, Toy Story 3, 127 hours, The Kids are all Right, The Fighter, Winter’s Bone and The Social Network.

Movies up for animated feature films are Toy Story 3, The Illusionist and How to Train your Dragon. Toy Story 3 has a total of five nominations.
The Academy Awards will air  Feb. 27 on ABC.
