Kodiak volleyball teams jumped to their victories

The women Kodiaks had a successful weekend, finishing with two home wins against the Lakeland Rustlers.

On Saturday, the women had no need for a fourth set, winning the first three with scores of 25-13, 25-20 and 25-21.

 In the first set, most of the Rustlers’ points were due to Kodiak mistakes. Hanna Minck was a powerhouse throughout the game with many kills from the left side.

The second set brought some fear to the Kodiaks. The set was packed with long rallies and back and forth scoring.

The second set was tied 11-11 and the Rustlers put a few points up on the board. The Kodiaks then pulled ahead by just a few points, winning the set with an ace.

In the third set Brittany Noble produced the majority of the Kodiaks’ offence. The Rustlers started falling apart making simple errors due to a lack of communication.

At the end of the third set there were many intense rallies, but the Kodiaks finished it off and won the match 3-0.

The libero, Olivia Abram, was the star of the game with her solid digs and smart game play.

On Friday night, the women were forced to play all four sets due to the Rustlers winning the first set. The scores for each set were 11-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-16.

After the first set the Kodiaks found what they were missing and finished with two close sets and took it away in the third.

Karli Bell received the player of the game award for her impressive power hits and game play.

The men played consistently throughout the weekend, finishing with two solid wins against their visitors the Lakeland Rustlers.

On Saturday, the men took home the game, winning in three sets defeating the Rustlers 25-10, 25-17 and 25-14.

In the first set, the Kodiaks dominated with Nic Dubinsky and Steve Carston pounding numerous kills.

In the second set, the Rustlers came out hard, creating a close match with the score tied 10-10. There were three timeouts called between both teams throughout the set.

The Kodiaks came back with some impressive blocks and kills to finish off the second set with an eight-point advantage over the Rustlers.

A turn of events occurred at the beginning of the third set with Lakeland having a lead of 7-6 over the Kodiaks.

About halfway through the set the Kodiaks pulled ahead to win the game.

Dubinsky was awarded the player of the game because of his outstanding right side kills.

On Friday night, the men finished the game in three sets. The set scores were 25-17, 25-16 and 25-20.

The men played an impressive game throughout and showed their home crowd what they were capable of.

The Kodiaks made a few careless mistakes, but always came back with some hard kills and impressive saves and digs.

Dubinsky was once again a powerhouse throughout the game, pounding some kills and setting some needed blocks.

The men’s setter, Vitor Macedo, was the star of the show with his consistent and smart sets, serves and overall game play.

The Kodiaks’ next home games will be on Nov. 26 with the women starting at 6 p.m. and the men starting at 8 p.m.
