Dusty Stauth started coaching in 1996 and has never looked back.
He has done a lot of different sports, from baseball to Volleyball, coaching both men and women.
“The toughest task is taking a bunch of individuals who have their own beliefs, ideas, ways of doing things and getting them all on the same page, to believe in the same things, and doing them the same way. Trying to get athletes to give up a piece of their individuality to try and create some synergy is the key to having successful teams and a successful program,” said Stauth.
Synergy is always close at hand when you watch Dusty coach. He has worked hard to improve the women’s volleyball team here at Lethbridge College.
“We finished 9-11, up from 5-15 last year, and advanced to the qualification round where we lost to a veteran Lakeland team that finished 2nd in the entire country last year. We feel like we had a great year with a lot of success,” said Stauth.
Stauth enjoys helping the players achieve any type of success; he feels that both men and women can take something away from one another’s game plans.
“I take the approach that they are all athletes, I try to treat them the same. I bring the speed and aggression from the men’s game to the women and the control and strategy from the women’s game to the men. Seems to work as I have had success coaching both genders,” said Stauth.
Gabrielle Davies is a member of Stauth’s Junior Kodiak squad; she says Dusty really believes in his players.
“He is really energetic, no matter how we play or how we practice he always makes us as competitive as we can be and he brings out the best in all of us.”
