The basketball Kodiaks kept busy this weekend, celebrating victories both home and away.
The women’s Kodiaks defeated the Medicine Hat Rattlers 60-58 in Friday’s away game.
Saturday night it was the Kodiak’s turn for a home-court advantage. The women Kodiaks came back fiercer than a pack of toddlers who skipped nap time, bringing home a 63-47 win.
The women’s team is currently tied for third place in the ACAC standings with the SAIT Trojans.
The Kodiak men’s team spent Friday night on the road, coming home with a 100-94 victory against Medicine Hat.
Saturday night’s home game was one of the fastest games the men have played all year. Both the Kodiaks and the Rattlers played vigorously, causing the game to go into overtime.
During the game there was some unsportsmanlike conduct that caused one Medicine Hat Rattler, Jamar Coke, to be thrown out of Saturday’s game with both a technical and flagrant foul.
Rattler’s coach Ben Julius was also given a technical foul and removed for his unsportsmanlike conversation with the refs during the game.
During overtime Kodiak, Travis Butt, sunk two out of two foul shots with 5.7 seconds left in the period. Butt won both the game and MVP for his hard work.
Medicine Hat Rattler’s MVP of the game was Matthew Augustine.
For their performance and victories this past weekend the men’s and women’s Kodiaks teams have been able to hang on to the Prairie Mountain Cup for yet another year.
The Prairie Mountain Cup acknowledges the accumulated performance of the Medicine Hat Rattlers and the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in all sports.
Kodiaks have retained the Cup since it started back in 2008.
The Kodiaks next home games are this weekend against Red Deer College. On Friday, the women play at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the women play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.
