Kodiaks find silver at the end of long road

Final score 102 – 85 Cheetahs
The season for the Lethbridge College Kodiaks came down to a single game against the Vanier Cheetahs on Saturday night, as the two teams battled it out for the CCAA national championship.

The Cinderella story for the Vanier Cheetahs, who were ranked seventh out of the eight teams in the tournament, continued as they defeated the fifth-ranked Kodiaks 102-85.

In earlier matches, the Kodiaks team defense was able to limit the point production from the top players of opposing teams. However, championship MVP Jerome Blake of the Cheetahs was able to pour in 32 points to pace his team to victory.
The Kodiaks appeared poised to capture the title by jumping out to early leads throughout the first half and ended the half up 48-41.
The Cheetahs clawed their way back into game and overtake the Kodiaks 74-70 heading into the fourth quarter.
Foul-shooting and clutch points from Blake down the stretch of the game proved to be too much for the Kodiaks as the Cheetahs made good on 18 of 21 free-throw attempts.
Logan Reiter earned player of the game honours for the Kodiaks by contributing 18 points, Dominyck Coward also chipped in with 22 points.
Reiter and Coward were also named to the first team all stars for the tournament while Jordan Reiter was named to the second team.
Final score 82 – 73 Kodiaks
The Kodiaks defeated the defending Canadian College’s Athletic Association champions in the University of Northern British Columbia in their first game, then knocked off the top ranked team from Vancouver Island University Mariners 82-73 to punch their ticket to the gold medal game.
This is the first national championship game the Kodiaks have participated in since 1989.
The play of the Kodiaks on the defensive end of the floor is one reason the team found itself in the championship game.
They limited Andrew Kaban of the Mariners to just 10 points, some 11 points off his regular season average.
Morgan Duce led the way for the Kodiaks on the offensive end, pouring in 23 points, while brothers Logan and Jordan Reiter chipped in with 15 and 13 points respectively.
The Kodiaks took on the seventh-seeded Vanier Cheetahs in the gold medal game.

Final score 81 – 66 Kodiaks
The Lethbridge College Kodiaks kicked off their run to the gold medal of the national championship by defeating the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves 81-66.
The Kodiaks played a strong game, jumping out to an early 7-0 lead and an eventual 31-28 lead at halftime.
The Timberwolves had the Candian Colleges Athletic Association player of the year Inderbir Gill, but the Kodiaks managed to keep him under control by limiting him to just 13 points and seven rebounds.
Dominyck Coward lead the way for the Kodiaks, putting up a game high 21 points and collecting 15 rebounds.
The win for the Kodiaks propelled them into one of the semi-final games against the top ranked Vancouver Island University Mariners.
Strangely, the Kodiaks, the fifth ranked team, is matched up against the top ranked team. While the other semi-final matchup pines the sixth ranked team from Mount Saint Vincent University against the seventh ranked team Vanier College.
