Although the leaves are changing colour and there have been a few snowfalls, the Lethbridge College Kodiak’s men’s soccer team is far from preparing for hibernation.

The Lethbridge College Kodiak’s men’s soccer team is coming off of a championship weekend, after the team won the gold medal game in Edmonton on Sunday, October 27.

The team defeated Red Deer College by a 2-0 score to take home to team’s first championship.

When asked about the championship weekend, Sean Carey, head coach had said after a bit of adversity, the team bounced back.

“The work they’ve put in this year, we went through a bit of adversity during the season. A few games didn’t go our way but the way they bounced back [was fantastic],” said Carey.

After the team won their game on Saturday against NAIT by a 2-1 score, the team wasn’t done yet.

The Kodiaks had their third game of the weekend against Red Deer College. Kodiak players Brayden Jetten and Kenzel Aarts-Roman were the two goal scorers during the game.

When the final whistle blew the team had not only won the gold medal, but had also punched their ticket to the CCAA National Championships.

“I knew they weren’t going to lose the game on Sunday. Just the way they talked, the mindsets going around the room, I just knew they were all invested and fully focused,” Carey added after being asked about Sunday’s game.

Kenzel Aarts-Roman, one of the goal scorers in the gold medal game says the team would constantly push each other on and off of the field to be the best they can be.

“Every day we would really push each other. We would always talk about how we’d want to bring that medal and banner home. Off and on the pitch we would talk, we would push each other to be the best we could,” said Aarts-Roman.

The Kodiaks will be heading out to Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario to begin the CCAA National Championships.
