Looking to even their team records to 5-5 on the season, the Kodiaks men’s and women’s volleyball teams hosted last-place Augustana University and the teams were able to do just that.
On Friday night the men won their match 3-1 and although they dropped the third set, Kodiaks player Jeff Marthaller was happy with the win but was also realistic about his team’s play.
“We need to eliminate our hitting errors; if we can’t keep our consistency then they can come back and beat us.”
On Saturday the Kodiaks narrowly won the second set 27-25 before going on to win the match 3-0.
Kodiaks Jeff Marthaller and Glen Lengyel continue their impressive seasons, currently sitting in third and ninth spot in the conference respectively in kills per game. The Kodiaks sit in a tie for sixth place in the conference.
Coming off a loss to Mount Royal last weekend, the Kodiaks women’s team bounced back against Augustana, winning both Friday and Saturday matches 3-0 to move into a tie for sixth place in the conference with Medicine Hat.
Following Friday night’s game, Kodiaks player Nicole Hawkins, who sits in sixth spot in the conference in digs per game, commented on what the team did to improve following last week’s loss.
“Communication stepped up a lot since that and everyone was more aggressive. Last week was rough on us and we really needed this win to bring us back up.”
The Kodiaks next home game is on Jan. 7 as the teams play host to Keyano College with the action starting at 6 p.m.
