On Sunday, Sept. 25, the women’s Kodiaks soccer team came close to capturing their first win of the season.
Stephanie Penny scored both goals for the Kodiaks against the Mount Royal Cougars.
Kim Shellenberg helped keep the Kodiaks in the game with her fast feet and quick thinking.
Shellenberg walked away with the player of the game award for her outstanding defence.
When the whistle blew after 90 minutes, the Kodiaks came up short with a 3-2 loss against the Cougars.
On Saturday, Sept. 24 the women’s teams faced off in Calgary against the SAIT Trojans’.
Stephanie Penny scored the single goal for the Lethbridge Kodiaks. Penny fought through an injury, but went on to take home the player of the game award.
The ball was not rolling in the girl Kodiaks’ favour against SAIT. Fighting with the heat and playing on the unfamiliar soccer field, they could not catch a break.
The final score of the game was 2-1 for the SAIT Trojans.
On Sept. 17, both Kodiak soccer teams came up a little short against the Medicine Hat Rattlers.
The women’s team worked hard, but it was not enough to win.
Kim Shellenberg again took home the player of the game award for her impeccable defence.
The final score of the game was 3-1 in favour of the Rattlers.
The mens’ soccer team has yet to lose at home. On Sept. 25 they faced off against the Mount Royal Cougars.
The Cougars came out strong scoring the first goal of the game, but the Kodiaks soon answered with their own goal by Eric Lister. From then on the
Kodiaks pulled forward scoring two more goals while the Cougars only managed to score one more.
Cole Runge scored two of the Kodiaks goals, bringing his goal count to six in five games.
Matthew Thomson sealed the match, scoring the fourth goal of the game and bringing the Kodiaks to win their third game of the season.
On Sept. 24 the Kodiaks had a tough game against SAIT. The Kodiaks struggled to find their touch playing on an unfamiliar field in hot weather.
Number three, Joa Markotic received player of the game for his gritty defensive play.
Dealing with injuries, they came up short, losing 3-0 to the Trojans.
The Kodiaks faced the Medicine Hat Rattlers on Sept. 17 and were unable to put any points on the scoreboard.
“Cody (Ferguson) helped keep us in the game, making save after save,” said player Shaun Gilchrist.
Ferguson was awarded for his astounding goalkeeping with the player of the game award.
The final score for the men’s game was 2-0 in favour of the Rattlers.
The women have zero wins and five losses, while the men have three wins and two losses so far this season.
The Kodiaks next home game is Saturday Oct. 1.
