The City of Lethbridge will be holding a municipal by-election on Feb. 1 to fill the seat for alderman after the unfortunate passing of Bob Babki last fall.
Ten potential candidates have made their intentions to run known, seven of which ran in the recent civic election.
The potential candidates are Jeff Coffman, Bal Boora, Wade Galloway, Rod Hoeg, Blaine Hyggen, Kevin Layton, George McCrea, Lea Switzer, Ken Tratch and former mayoral candidate Kay Adenyi.
McCrea and Galloway are the only two candidates who did not run in the previous election.
According to informative websites, lethbridgeaccountability.ca and electlethbridge.wordpress.com/byelection, the main issues following the by-election are looking to be the same as those talked about in the fall civic election.
Candidates are being asked to comment on such topics as snow removal, downtown parking, building projects and skateboard parks.
The citizen-run websites are asking candidates to discuss hot topics in online forums in order to educate the public and create an interactive understanding of those looking to be elected.
The Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs will be hosting a public forum at the Lethbridge Public Library this Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The aldermanic candidates will be present to public and media for questioning.
Two meet and greet types events will follow on January 13 at 7 p.m. at The Gardens adult live-in facility and on January 18 at 6:30 at the Public Library, Crossings Branch.
Four polling stations are expected on the day of the election and advanced polling will be open to all eligible voters on Jan. 21, Jan.22 and Jan. 28.
