Lethbridge citizens have a new way to take part in city council meetings.
On Oct. 24 the City of Lethbridge launched a video stream of city council meetings.
“One of the goals of city council was to look for new opportunities to communicate and engage with the community,” says Aleta Neufeld, city deputy clerk.
“Coverage of video will be of all regular scheduled city council meetings,” Neufeld explains.
“That includes the regular Monday meetings, finance meetings, all public meetings and community issue meetings.”
Video streaming lets viewers watch the meetings as they are happening live, allowing residents to view presentations and watch the decision making process.
Actual live streaming can only be available as the meeting is happening but an archived version will also be available.
The agenda, minutes and supporting material will be accessible and will link to the actual location in the video. “People at their own conveniencecan watch or listen,” says Neufeld.
“You can listen to just one item on the agenda by clicking on it.” This allows the viewer to pick and choose what they want to watch or listen, preventing them from having to go through a complete live stream.
Neufeld is hoping that providing different options like a live stream will connect to a broader audience.
If you’re interested in watching, you can find the live stream on the City of Lethbridge website at www.lethbridge.ca.
