Lethbridge College celebrates cultures from around the world

Many different cultures were celebrated at Lethbridge College this week, courtesy of a cultural event.

Bridging Cultures is an annual celebration that gives time for the community to get together to learn about different cultures around the world.

VP Academic, Samantha Lenci, says the college wants to promote diversity by hosting this event.

“The purpose of this event is to open the diversity door and make sure that we aren’t saying everyone has to become Canadian.”

Bridging Cultures took place in the Val Matteotti gymnasium from 11 – 2 p.m. this Thursday.

Attendees were treated to Portuguese and Japanese performances, as well as many others from across the globe.

Hi, I’m Seth Slomp, I live on a beef and dairy farm not too far from Lethbridge in Picture Butte. It’s a family farm that stretches 1,500 acres where my uncles, my dad, my brother and two hired hands all work. Growing up I was never interested in agriculture, my love was for sports, specifically volleyball and soccer. I also played basketball, badminton and threw discus in high school. Currently, I attend Lethbridge College where I am a second-year student-athlete in the Digital Communications and Media program. When I'm not in school I also play for the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s soccer team.
