Lethbridge College helps students relieve stress by opening a unique Christmas store

Lethbridge College is helping students get into the holiday spirit with a one-of-a-kind Christmas store.

Located on campus between the cave and the centre core lies a little piece of the north pole which aims to relieve stress students experience from Christmas shopping

From books and board games to gift baskets and tree decorations, they have it all. In addition to the store, there’s also a silent auction and a bake sale that will be open to all staff and students.

The store was originally designed to allow students to buy gifts for their friends and family while attending classes and doing their schoolwork.

“What the store originally is, is so students can come in and be able to buy things for Christmas because we know what it’s like to be students,” said Emily Campbell, bookstore manager. “We’ve all been students at one point in our lives and so this gives them the chance to be able to buy things that are new to them and be able to give things to their family and friends.”

Campbell said all the gifts found in the store are new or gently used items that supporters around campus have donated.

Not only is the store easily accessible for staff and students, but it is also an affordable option for students compared to some other Christmas stores.

“I think it’s great. There’s a lot of affordable stuff around here. There’s probably a lot of students who are looking for some random things like this that they usually have to spend a lot more money on,” said Joshua Jensen, a Lethbridge College student.

Last year the Christmas store managed to bring in a total of $4,500 and is looking to reach that goal again this year.

The Christmas store will remain open until Friday, Dec. 7 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

All proceeds from the Christmas store go directly back to students through college and bookstore gift cards which they can use for textbooks, tuition or meals in the food court.
