Lethbridge College organized conversational tea ceremony to connect students with community

International student Arshdeep Kaur enjoys a cup of tea on Uni-tea event on Wednesday, Jan. 22. This event was organized to help international students connect with the college community.

To support the mental health and wellness of students, Lethbridge College organized a conversational tea ceremony to connect members within the college community.

Tanner Mercer, events and communication coordinator of the Uni-tea event said students are encouraged to have a conversation with someone from a different city and country.

He said through one-on-one and group conversations, Uni-tea connects students with the community and engages in discussions on a wide range of topics or issues.

He added that lots of activities included helping facilitate these conversations, discuss with others and talk about some interesting facts about a student’s life.

“It’s a good opportunity to share some tea and know people. it’s important for people to connect especially if they come from a different country. Small conversation over 15 minutes really help students become comfortable on campus,” Mercer said.

Michelle Kildaw, a student representative said the college is trying to unite students through this event.

“We are opening conversation for students, which helps students to make new friends and connect with the community,” Kildaw said.

She said Uni-tea provides opportunities for these conversations to happen, which can make all the difference in the life of a student.

“We are building community one tea at a time and believe strong campuses foster communities where voices of students are heard and well-being is promoted,” Kildaw said.

Lethbridge College is planning to organize more events in the upcoming months. Check lethbridgecollege.ca for more details.
