Lethbridge College student wins Equity Scholarship

Joey Sugai, from Raymond and a member of the Kainai First Nation of the Blackfoot Confederacy, has been chosen as the recipient of the 2010 Alberta Equity Scholarship.

Sugai recently graduated with honours from the print journalism program. He is currently working to achieve a diploma in advertising/public relations.

“The scholarship is about dedication,” said D’Arcy Kavanagh, communication arts program director. “No student worked harder last year than Joey.”

Kavanagh also referred to Sugai as a role model not only for Aboriginal students, but for all students because he understands the value of education.

The $2,000 scholarship is an initiative of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group. It focuses on addressing the lack of Alberta broadcasters from four under-represented groups; Aboriginal Peoples, Persons with Disabilities, Members of Visible Minorities, and Women.
