Local film on fatherhood

Common Chord, a locally-produced film, will have its red carpet premiere this Thursday at the Movie Mill, with a silent auction and proceeds donated to Family Centre.

The entire film was shot in and around Lethbridge and features many local actors in a screenplay written by Trevor Carroll and Deric Olsen.

The story follows Kyle, who struggles to accept the responsibility of being a single father to his young daughter, Teigan, after the death of his ex-girlfriend. Feeling pressure from Teigan’s grandfather, Bill, over custody rights and his own pursuit of a career as a musician, Kyle and Bill go on an emotional journey to discover what is most important.

Common Chord is produced by George Gallant for Gallant Productions Inc. and Deric Olsen for Northbound Studios. Gallant says that coming to the premiere will support the film community involved in the production, as well as Family Centre and the programs they provide to Southern Alberta.

“We wanted to work with an organization that reflected the theme of the film which is the strength of families and the role a father plays in them,” says Gallant. “Family Centre has great programs for strengthening families here in Lethbridge and they focus on supporting fathers.”

The show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple and are available at all Scotiabank branches. For more information about the movie, check out commonchordmovie.com.
