Long Distance Technology

Funderwear is exactly how it sounds. A new invention from Durex has couples from all around the world intrigued and excited. The video promoting the product has become very popular in the last six months since its release.

This vibrating underwear is controlled by iPhone users, and its main purpose is to keep long distance relationship couples interested and fun. The underwear, which comes in women and men sizes, stimulates at the touch of a button.

How it works is the couples put on the underwear (boxers for men, bras and panties for women), and then drag their fingertips across the body diagram on the iPhone app, which sends a signal to set off the vibrations in the underwear of the opposite partner, creating sensations as if the couples were actually being touched by their partners.

This invention eases the strain of couples being far away from each other, the Lovotics invention, the Kissinger, a robotic mouth that stimulates real kisses for couples living apart.

And although this product could be beneficial to long distance relationships, what is stopping this product from becoming the ultimate cheating device?

The first show of technological cheating was in the cell phone stage, when spouses would ‘sext’ their main squeezes in the hopes of not getting caught. Easy enough, the evidence could be hidden, and no physical touch was actually done.

Physical touch? Is this the only form of cheating? Sheri Meyers from the Huffington Post says that there are more ways of cheating than touch. “Emotional sex is so much more potent: Instant access to our lover is in our pocket, our purse, or laptop. We don’t even have to leave home to cheat. We can do it while the kids are playing in the backyard or our partner is downstairs watching TV or cooking dinner.”

So, if a lover was to give their partner the Funderwear, and they sneak out of their spouse’ bed to curl up on the couch and open the app, this is producing both emotional and physical cheating.

Due to infidelity over social media and other electronic sources, divorce rates have increased to over 30 per cent.

David Frontera, opposer to the invention, says that real touch is nothing compared to a robot. “Durex is creating more families to be broken, more cheating, and teens to be doing what adults make… nothing better than real sex with someone that you really love!”

Although, Lana Rae Blue disagrees with this statement, as she thinks it would be beneficial for her long distance relationship, saying that it would be great for her and her boyfriend as he is away a lot working on the oil rigs.

Although I believe this could be a good way for couples to keep the sex life alive whilst being away from each other, considering the amount of infidelities and divorce rates climbing, I can’t see this product being beneficial for society or struggling relationships.
