The Evangelical Free Church of Lethbridge put on their annual Christmas play this past weekend. There were seven shows in total, with a packed audience at every performance.
The play this year was The Long Way Home, a comical Christmas production. The play was written and performed by volunteers of the church.
The Long Way Home is a story of Walter, a quirky prairie boy studying in Toronto, performed by Mick Thiessen and Gabe, a displaced businessman from Ontario, brought to life by Owen Ukrainetz. They find themselves thrown together on an epic adventure across Canada to make it to Lethbridge in time for Christmas.
During their adventure Gabe and Walter face challenges such as their flight landing early in the wrong city, a small car crash into a snow bank and snowmobiling until there was no more snow.
Throughout the play Walter reminded Gabe of all the good things in life and of the Christmas spirit, even taking time to explain why he loves the holiday with the story of baby Jesus. In the end both men found the joy in Christmas and what it really meant to them.
The play was free for everyone that wished to join in the Christmas event. The church collected monetary donations in which all proceeds are going to the Lethbridge Food Bank and Interfaith Food Bank.
“We have raised over $130,000 in the past couple years and they still need our help,” says Jeremy Light minister of peer ministries at the Evangelical Free Church of Lethbridge.
