A motor vehicle collision at Trades Mall left four people injured and one deceased.

At approximately 9 a.m. police say a golden SUV jumped the median of Lotfortech Drive and collided into a blue sedan and motorcyclist, in the east parking lot of Trades Mall.

After the collision, witness Alex Pradzinski claims the driver of the SUV fled the scene on foot, once he approached the accident to see if anyone needed help.

“I ran over to the collision to make sure everyone was OK and I saw some alcohol inside the golden SUV, some beer cans and stuff,” said Pradzinski.

As he was exiting Trades Mall, squealing tires caught the attention of witness Austin Watson quickly enough to catch the moments prior to the accident.

“Just before the SUV lost control, it looked like the driver was hitting at somebody in the backseat. When he hit the Pontiac the passenger got flung over into the driver seat from the impact,” said Watson.

In a media conference, Lethbridge Police Service officer Olivia Ferrier told reporters they apprehended the driver in his room at the Tellalodge Hotel in Lethbridge.

42-year-old James Roger Willis is charged with impaired driving and impaired driving causing bodily harm, as well as failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Willis will be held in police custody and his first appearance in court is set for Monday, April 4.

The victim in the front passenger seat of the blue sedan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the deceased will not be released until next of kin has been notified.
