Movie review: Smurfs strictly for children

The Smurfs movie, starring Neil Patrick Harris, hit theatres with a target audience in mind.

When an evil Gargamel chases the Smurfs out of their village, unseen by the human eye, into the real world of Central Park in New York City. They are then forced to live in our realm, while trying to find a way back to their village.

If you are over the age of about 14, you may not find the movie as funny as a seven year old.

The main reason I did not like the movie is because it was not very funny. When they say “Smurf” instead of every bad word, or when Neil says “ I Smurf you” to his wife instead of I Love You, it’s hilarious for the kids, but for us older age group, it gets old really fast.

A few adults I talked to who saw the movie said the same thing; it was not as funny as they were expecting. According to a nine year old, it was the best movie ever! They absolutely loved it.

Females also tend to like this movie more than males. I have yet to find a male who liked this movie at all.

Overall it is a cute movie, but not one of my top 10 favourite movies to watch.
