MUSIC REVIEW: ‘Music for Cougars’ is sweet like sugar

Proposed Title: “Music for Cougars”? Music for Everyone! I know what you’re probably thinking. “Sugar Ray? They’re still around”?

Yes, Sugar Ray, one of my favourite bands as a kid, is still around and just released their sixth CD last year, titled Music for Cougars.
Music for Cougars is much like Sugar Ray’s previous albums. They got famous by making records full of their own version of beach rock, and in Music for Cougars, they stayed on that path.  Music for Cougars brings me back to my elementary school days, when I used to listen on the radio and sing along to Fly, Someday and When It’s Over. Boardwalk is my favourite song on the album. It’s simply a song about living the life on the beach in summer. Boardwalk is fun to sing along to, easy to listen to multiple times in a row, and is a catchy tune that I think everyone can enjoy. Some of my other favourites are Love 101 and Love is the Answer.
Love 101 is about showing your love to that special someone, and is a well written song with a great chorus. Love Is the Answer, is an all-around awesome song. It has great lyrics, great guitar, and a great message. “Love is the answer, makes no difference what you have heard. Love is the answer, you have got to trust in the word.” Simple enough words to live by.
Music for Cougars is a great CD. It’s fun, it’s catchy, and it makes me feel good when I listen to it. It’s the type of CD that you blast when you’re cruising down the highway with the windows open. I give Music for Cougars 4.5 claws out of 5.
