Over 1800 campus bookstores celebrated National Student Day (NSD) last week. Among them was Lethbridge College bookstore, which put on a free barbecue for students.
The purpose of NSD is to promote awareness for student volunteer opportunities, as well as to show their support of student involvement with their peers and communities.
Students were able to share their experiences at www.nationalstudentday.com, and enter to win one of 12 iPad minis, or one of three scholarships.
“It gives students a bit of a break. Everybody’s going through exams, writing papers and everything. So events like this are just a way to sort of de-stress as you’re going through the week,” says Mike Doughty, vice president of the LCSA.
According to Lethbridge College staff, the event will continue for future students in hopes of promoting volunteer work and stress relief.
Another de stress event that students can look forward to is Thirsty Thursday in the Cave.
“It’s definitely brought a number of people together under the pretext of alcohol. It’s the middle of the day, so it’s a different environment,” says Will McDonald, as Lethbridge College student.
Students can enjoy cheap adult beverages and one dollar hotdogs Thursday afternoons, sponsored by the LCSA.
