NDP East Runners

The New Democratic Party is scrambling to get their representatives for the upcoming 2015 election. Among the contenders for the candidates of Lethbridge East, a familiar face at the college is trying to make way into the position.

Many NDP members and supporters came to the party’s Christmas fundraiser to hear from the candidates who want to represent their party within the upcoming  2015 federal election, in the Lethbridge East riding.

The candidates are focusing on environmental issues, economics, and enhancing the strength of the downtown business culture within their riding.

The race moved from four candidates down to a slightly tighter race between three after the others dropped out.

Lethbridge College Instructor Kris Hodgson is one of the candidates for the east riding.

Kris Hodgson speaks to the NDP crowd in front of him about his campaign platform.

“I am running for many things, one of them is environment, renewable energy is a big thing I’m very proud of. And I want to see more policy developed around renewable energy,” said Hodgson, “I think there is always going to be an oil and gas industry but it can be more of a mix.”

The other candidates vying for the riding are Tom Moffatt who focuses on safe industry practices and long time NDP member Maria Fitzpatrick.

The vote for the candidate of the NDP Lethbridge East riding will be voted for next month. Voting will be in the afternoon of January 14, 2015 at the Italian Culture Centre on Saint Edward Boulevard. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
