Student clubs are starting up again at Lethbridge College with a new club that hopes to get students in touch with nature.
Including the newly-formed Firearms Club, only six clubs have been put on the list this year for the college, which Vice President of Student Life Jessika Guse says is unfortunate.
“Part of my mandate is to get clubs up and running back like they were in 1966-1976, where there were 23 clubs. “I don’t think believe we will get that far, possibly around 13 though.”
Guse is hoping to get other clubs going, such as religious organizations and the start up of a Pride Club.
With the hope of other clubs joining, being created, there is excitement about one of the new clubs starting up in particular.
The Firearms Club is new to the college and has proved to be a great add on for the college added Guse.
The clubs has become a popular trend at other post secondary institutions and has helped the process for introducing the firearms club here at the college.
“The club already has a 60 members in the group,” informed Guse. Their focus to promote gun safety, which has been a great message for them to get across.
With the help of the Lethbridge Fish and Wildlife Association, students will have their own storage locker at the shooting range.
“The awareness of showing that guns can be quite the hobby and sport shows how this club can be a great benefit to students,” says Guse.
