Fortis scholarship will recognize 20 FNMI students

Aboriginal students at Lethbridge College now have access to a new scholarship opportunity.

FortisAlberta Ltd presented a $50,000 scholarship to the college as in part of creating an inclusive environment for FNMI students.

The donation will be used to supplement 20 students’ tuition by $2,500 for four students over the next five years.

“We value our relationships with the aboriginal communities we serve,” said Debbie Bowering, FortisAlberta communications advisor.

Bowering ties community and two Metis settlements across Alberta.

“We want to give back to the communities where we do business,” she continued.

FortisAlberta currently owns and operates over 60 per cent of Alberta’s electric distribution network with over 120,000 kilometers of power lines across the province.

“Thanks to the generosity of FortisAlberta, we will be able to make that support available to even more FNMI students in the years ahead,” said the college’s president Paula Burns.

“We want education at Lethbridge College to be accessible to everyone with the added determination to achieve, regardless of their ability to afford,” she continued.

The donation is in part of the college’s Possibilities are Endless campaign. The campaign is an extensive effort to raise $103 million to support key programs at the college.

Earlier this month the college celebrated an allocation of over 900 individual scholarships and bursaries of over $1 million offered to students.

The donation is a part of the college’s Possibilities are Endless campaign, an ambitious effort to raise $103 million to support key innovative and essential college initiatives, including student awards.
