Students in the Lethbridge Polytechnic Nursing program take a break from studies to come together, have fun and relax before a hectic exam season. They have formed a club that comes together for study sessions and now game nights. The club members came together and hosted a game night in the Polytechnic Cave on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The event was organized by Nursing Club President Nour Salmi and Vice President Katiana Latlant, who were very excited and eager to express their excitement about how they were able to put the entire event together.
The goal of the night was simply to bring nursing students together in a fun and relaxed way. Nour explained why an event like this was necessary for nursing students. “It can be difficult for students in the nursing program to connect, especially early in the program. In nursing, you kind of get put into a new group for the first year and then you get mixed in second year, so this is a really good way to meet your classmates.” Events like this help students step outside of the classroom and build relationships that can support them throughout the program.
This was the first time the Nursing Club has hosted a game night like this, and the turnout exceeded Nour and Katiana’s expectations. Around 40 students showed up, which was more than they had expected. Nour explained how meaningful the big turn up was for the club “We had around 40 people show up, which was a lot more than we expected, and it just showed how much people wanted and needed something like this.” The strong attendance showed that a lot of students were in fact looking for opportunities to relax and connect.
The event itself featured a variety of fun games. There was karaoke, board games, Jenga, pool and even musical chairs. Food and drinks were also provided, including lots of pizza from Domino’s. The atmosphere was energetic and welcoming, giving students a chance to unwind during a busy time in the semester. Even though the event was organized for the nursing program they happily welcomed students from other programs to come in, socialize and enjoy themselves.
Katiana highlighted the importance of taking a break, especially with exam season strongly approaching. “This is just an amazing way for nursing students to relax and unwind, especially with the stress of exam season coming up.” The event gave students a chance to step away from their studies for a few hours to relax and have a little bit of fun.
Planning for the event started about a month in advance. Members of the club came together to organize everything, delegating tasks and making sure everything was covered. Their teamwork played a big role in the success of the night.
Although Nour and Katiana are in their final year and won’t be able to organize future events themselves, they hope this event becomes a tradition held once a semester. They plan to pass the idea on to the next club leaders, with the goal of continuing to build a strong sense of community within the nursing program.
