Olympian’s sister has only love for athlete

Laramie Hollingsworth does a lot of things but one thing she doesn’t do, is hate her sister.

Hollingsworth was born and raised in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, a place that she loves to call home. While currently going to school in Lethbridge, studying Criminal Justice, she has a hard time being away from home, missing the country.

She’s grown up with a “celebrity” of a sister. Mellisa Hollingsworth is a two time Olympian. Competing in skeleton racing, Mellisa won a bronze medal at the Torino, Italy Olympics in 2006 and she came in fifth place in 2010’s Vancouver Olympics. She’s working her way towards her third Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Because of her sister, Laramie’s had to deal with the media and their not so very nice comments, including the question: “Do you hate your sister?” Laramie is proud of her sister and believes they are very different from each other and stand out in their own ways.

“Mellisa has worked very hard and sacrificed a lot in her life to achieve her dreams and goals. She has dedicated 17 years of her life to reaching her goals of making the Olympics.”

While it seems like Laramie might be overshadowed by her sister’s accomplishments, she has her own talent: rodeo. She barrel races and pole bends, along with helping her family raise bucking horses and she picks up in the rough stock events. Laramie has won several buckles and two scholarships in her years of competing in different rodeo events.

Despite their differences, Darcy Hollingsworth, the girls’ father is very proud of both his daughters. “They both work really hard to accomplish their goals and be good at what they do.”

Putting away her saddle, Laramie decided to give rodeo life a break and to go back to school. She chose to go into Corrections because she “wanted something that was going to challenge her and she’s always loved helping people.”

Laramie has her eyes on the prize and her main goal is to get into Victim Services. With her strong-willed personality, it’s more than likely that she’ll achieve her goal with outstanding results.
