The City of Lethbridge gives about 45,000 tickets per year. Out of those tickets, 70 to 80 per cent are paid at a reduced rate.
Dave Henley, senior bylaw officer, says not all parking tickets get paid on time. “All parking tickets that end up in court and the owner fails to appear, convictions in absence are issued,” said Henley. “The fine is assessed to the registration of the vehicle with a fee of $20.” A ticket at $25 under the City of Lethbridge bylaw will cost $6 if paid within seven days will cost $25 up to the court date and will cost $45 once added to registration. Alanna Bruce, Lethbridge resident, says parking meters are not all that bad. “Paying when you park downtown can be annoying, but I think if they didn’t have that it would be harder to find spots to park,” says Bruce. “I did get a parking ticket one time for $10. It was my own fault, but I paid it the next day.”
