Fashion for a cause, turning clothes into cash. That’s the goal of the latest project put forth by the University of Lethbridge Students’ Union and the Faculty of Education students.
During the second week of November, they will be collecting gently-used clothing, food and cash donations on campus and in the community. Once the donations have been received, from November 9th to 13th, people will be able to purchase the clothing items for two dollars to five dollars per item.
“In light of the recent shifts in the economy, raising money for good causes has been a challenge,” said Sara Ritchie, the ULSU General Assembly Education Representative, education student and organizer of the event.
“We also know that students want to stay fashionable, but a lack of money can put a kink in those plans. Our event should help to solve both those problems, and at the prices we plan to charge, you can’t afford to miss it.”
Ritchie also noted that proceeds raised would help establish a scholarship program to assist future education students during their internship and in their first year of the profession.
Their goal is to raise a minimum of $3000 and have the possibility of getting their raised funds matched.
Community drop off points will be located at St. Mary’s School at 422-20th Street S. and Nicholas Sheran Community School at 380 Laval Blvd. W.
