Potential students given chance at life-changing experience

Lethbridge College’s Extreme Career Makeover competition is in full swing, as voting is open for the top 10 finalists.

Communications specialist Gwen Wirth says that as of last Thursday, there were more than 13,000 votes cast from around the world.

The contest gives a chance to two lucky people to revamp their career paths and learn something new. The winners will receive two years’ paid tuition, books and housing in residence.

One of the current top four finalists is 36-year-old Greg Matt, who is working hard to support his wife and young son.  Matt has always been supportive of his wife’s career. She has now been diagnosed with a debilitating disease. His dream is to enter the trades program with a focus on becoming an electrician.

Nick Shearer is a 33-year-old rap artist and writer who wants to make a career leap into the digital communications and media program. He says broadcast journalism has been a dream of his and that he’s ready to make the change.
