Preliminary hearing dates set for Coalhurst murder

A preliminary hearing date has been set for a 26-year old man accused of murdering a Lethbridge College student.

Harpal Singh Dhillon has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault. The charges stem from the murder of second-year civil engineering student Jiwanjyot Ghai in Coalhurst in Nov. 2010.

Dhillon didn’t appear in court on Wednesday morning. The preliminary hearing has been set for May 9, 10, and 11.

Ghai, 21, was helping clean up the Coalhurst Community Centre after a party when the suspect approached his brother, who tried to intervene and was injured in the incident.
