The holiday season is all about spreading cheer, and that is exactly what four local restaurants are doing. The Mealshare program was recently adopted by Two Guys and a Pizza Place, Unami Shop, Original Joe’s, and Streatside Eatery.
Mealshare is a non-profit society that guarantees a meal with the purchase of any Mealshare item from participating restaurants. The concept of the program is buy one, give one. The dollar amount restaurant owners donate for each Mealshare item is $1.00. This is all it takes to provide a meal for one person.
According to Two Guys and a Pizza Place owner, Cory Medd, the program is a win-win for both the restaurant owners and the charities.
“It’s a great way for customers to come in, like they were going to go and eat out anyways. So maybe they’ll make the decision to come to our place, eat a great meal, have a great time, knowing part of their dollar is going to a great cause,” Medd says.
Donations are also accepted online at www.mealshare.ca if options in the restaurants aren’t what you’d like. All donations received from restaurants within Lethbridge will mainly go to the Interfaith Foodbank, with the rest going to Save the Children Canada.
