Ride raises funds for food bank

Faculty members and friends of Lethbridge College went for a motorcycle ride to raise money for the Students Association food bank.

Life sciences instructor Dic Charge organized the trek, and asked the riders for a donation of $50 from faculty and $25 from students as a participation fee.

Charge says the idea came from the desire to take advantage of the nice weather, and then he decided to make it a charity ride.

“I thought about other rides I’ve heard of that are done for charity,” says Charge, adding that the food bank is one of his favourite charities.

Charge says the weather conditions were ideal for the ride through several southern Alberta communities, and that the ride was a success.

Five faculty members, one former member, and two of Charge’s friends participated in the ride. With the combination of the participation fees and additional donations, they were able to raise $560 for the food bank.

I think more people are aware of the food bank, so score one.  We raised a respectable amount of money, so score a second time.  We had a very enjoyable ride and all of us thought we’d like to do it again, so score a third or even fourth time.”

Charge is hoping to organize another ride for early May 2012.
