Rimmer ‘holds down fort’ against Kings

The Hurricanes performance at the Enmax center Wednesday night was anything but spectacular, losing to the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-0.

The first star of the game, goalie Ty Rimmer had an amazing performance. “We knew it was going to be a battle tonight, defending champions coming into our barn,” said Rimmer.  “ I expected a lot of shots, that’s what they gave us they were pretty relentless throughout 60 minutes. I held the fort down the best I could.”

Rimmer made 57, His performance alone held the Hurricanes to a one goal game until early in the third period.

Coach and general manager Rich Preston said, “He gave us the chance to win the game,” adding,  “ Its pretty tough if you don’t score any goals.”

After 40 minutes Rimmer made forty stops, and the fans let him know they had his back, chanting his name as he left the ice.“ I have never really received a ovation like that.” Said Rimmer “It was pretty special.”

The Hurricanes younger forwards showed up late in the game, making a few turnovers in the offensive end. “Probably our best line was our young kids, Duke, Wong and Leverton, they had some scoring chances,” said Preston. This late game effort was fruitless, as Oil Kings goalie Tristan Jarry stopped all 20 shots the Hurricanes threw at him

The second period was a flurry of majors, with two fights and twice as many scrums and pushing matches. “We gave them way too much respect, I mean, they were the league champs last year, but it is a new year, we can’t give them that much respect especially when they come into our barn,” said forward Brady Ramsay.

This respect was letting the Oil Kings use the middle of the ice to create scoring drives, and keep the puck buried in the defensive zone.

Late in the third period the canes’ tried to rally. Young forward Tyler Wong creating turnovers, and making a few scoring chances.

This last ditch effort fell short, as the team could not figure things out in time to save the win for their gladiator between the pipes.
