Self-worth and beliefs affect ability to achieve fitness goals

A person’s self-worth and beliefs affect their ability to be able to achieve their fitness goals.

Samantha Anderson, a fitness trainer in the Brooks area recently hosted a virtual event called Sips and Tips on Nov. 4. During the event, Anderson discussed how your self-worth and your beliefs have a direct effect on if you will achieve your fitness goals or not.

According to Anderson, self-worth can be defined as, “a feeling that you are a good person who deserves to be treated with respect.”

She believes that having a sense of self-worth means that you value yourself and having a sense of self-value means that you are worthy. Your beliefs shape your results and your results shape your destination.

“If a person thinks negative thoughts like, ‘I’m not good enough, I am not confident enough, I am fat and I am lazy, they will never be able to achieve their fitness goals,’” said Anderson.

According to the presentation Anderson used during the event, “all the tools in the world mean nothing if your beliefs don’t change.”

Empowering beliefs that will help encourage person are thoughts like, “failure always brings opportunity and growth, failure is one of my greatest lessons toward improvement and opportunity is everywhere.”

If a person thinks thoughts like these, nothing will be able to stop them from achieving their fitness goals.

No matter how many times a person may fail or struggle at achieving their fitness goals, if they have a positive attitude, they will eventually achieve their goal says Anderson.

According to Anderson, “having a clear vision and goal and knowing that you are worth it will make you 100,000 per cent more successful.”

One way to overcome fitness fears is to consider getting a personal trainer. Having a personal trainer will help motivate you because they will work one-on-one with you and be able to cater to your needs.

Another way is to follow an exercise plan. If your exercise plan is designed around your fitness goals, it will help you stay on track.

Elizabeth Venzin, the Founder and CEO of Mind Shift in Australia speaks about how having low self-esteem can make it difficult to accomplish fitness goals.

“When you have low self-esteem, it can be very difficult to get started, persevere with exercise challenges and not simply give up on a training programme. This is especially true if you haven’t exercised for some time, or are overweight or are very unfit, because you may think you’ll never get there.”

There are multiple ways to overcome having low self-esteem, according to health24.com.

They include making step-by-step goals for exercise, challenge negative self-talk, don’t compare yourself to others, acknowledge your progress, forget the past and give yourself a daily positive message.

By following these suggestions Anderson says, it is possible to improve your self-worth, beliefs and to overcome low self-esteem.
