Seniors live it up

Old age does not mean the end of life. On March 21. I spent the morning with 10 of the funniest and full-of-life seniors I have ever met.

I was lucky enough to learn the game of carpet bowling at the Nord Bridge Seniors Centre.  Floyd Erwin, a veteran of the game, told me stories about life and how much fun being a senior really is.

“You learn to laugh more as you get older,” Erwin told me.

The seniors were happy to have me there. They taught me the rules of the game and how to roll the ball. They even let me play a round or two.

I learned so much from that morning. How important friends and laughter is and never be afraid to laugh.

“You become funny automatically as you get older,” said Erwin.

Norene Erwin is the coordinator of the carpet bowling at the centre; she say’s the best part about bowling is friendship.

“The fellowship is great, and I think there is a bit of skill involved too.”

I never knew that. I also never knew how much fun life is closer to the end.
