Lethbridge’s Farmers Market in Exhibition Park is one of the best markets in Alberta, according to one vendor. The market runs every Saturday at Exhibition Park from May 11 to Oct. 26.
The farmers market offers products that are made, baked or grown, such as crafts and artwork, fresh fruits and vegetables, handmade clothing and homemade baking.
The market offers small-scale farmers to chance to market their products, establish their business and increase their income.
Sydney Blatz, working at the West of the 5th booth, said farmers markets exist in many countries worldwide and reflect the local culture and economy.
“It’s like a showcase for small businesses to win and get their names out. With the help of farmers markets, small businesses run their businesses and advertise their handmade products in front of people,” Baltz said.
Baltz said markets like these provides various benefits to consumers because it provides seasonal foods that are fresher, healthier, and also, less expensive than prices at a supermarket.
Terri Neilson, Exhibition Park employee, says almost 60 vendors attend the west pavilion market every Saturday and approximately 3,000 people attend.
“The farmers market is so popular because it provides fresh vegetables, which are grown in Alberta,” said Neilson.
Neilson said a wide range of organizations showcase at the farmers market including farmers, crafters and community groups.
She said it is a great place to meet with members of the community, taking with producers about how they grow these fruits and vegetables.
