Spring is in the air at Home and Garden Show

Spring has sprung and, as the weather continues to warm, flowers will begin to bloom all over town. Residents of Lethbridge got a little inspiration of just what they can transform their flowerbeds and more into at the Home and Garden Show presented by Exhibition Park and the Canadian Home Builders Association.

With 257 vendors, the Home and Garden Show gives people a chance to view new trends and ideas for their living spaces. This year also included demonstrations and the jack-of-all-trades skill competition, where local tradesmen compete in creating what they can with given supplies and limited time.

Mandy White, event coordinator at Exhibition Park, has been involved with the show for three years. White says over the five days of the show, March 12-15, they have around 28-30,000 people attend.

“Well it’s spring and in spring people start thinking about the spring cleanup, what they’re going to do in their house and yards for the summer, the trending colours and fashions for interior decorating,” says White. “We essentially bring that all under one roof, kind of your one stop shop for all of your home and garden needs for the 2014 year.”

The trade show isn’t only for those attending but also a great way for local businesses to show what they are doing. Junji Kuno, owner of Southern Alberta Rock Gardens & Landscaping Ltd. looks forward to connecting with people. Winning the award for best landscaping, Kuno looks to show trade show goers new products and trends as they occur over the years.

“It’s my business, I like to show to people what I do and I’ve been doing this for close to 30 years,” says Kuno.

So no matter what the reason you attend, everyone can look forward to spring. Working on your own yard or your neighbors, the trade show gave a hand to everyone.
