Here at Lethbridge College, we strive to be innovative. Michael Bartz from the Lethbridge College Student Experience decided to carry this torch high when he took the concept of a standing desk to the next level.
A personal trainer off campus, Bartz said his creativity led him to create the cycling desk, a step up from the standing desks used by himself and his co-workers.
“It’s the first of its kind at the college,” he said about his new contraption, where he cycles for 15-20 minutes a day when he gets tired of sitting.
Bartz said the project resulted as a tandem between himself and his father, Roy Bartz, a technician from the heavy-duty mechanics department at the college, who welded the exercise bike to a desktop Michael received from maintenance.
“He has always had an exceptional willingness to help me in one way or another with various metal projects over the years. He is the most talented person I know when it comes to creating anything in the shop,” Bartz said about his father.
He also mentioned how he is always looking for the opportunity to stay fit.
“We sit for long periods of the day. I do what I can to help show the students the possibilities of being healthy, from eating healthy to staying active.”
Bartz said his creativity and knack for keeping active led him to do something innovative and he hopes students can take some inspiration from his new office space.
”I’ve always been into health and wellness… I like the opportunity to share when I can,” he said.
You can see the cycle desk for yourself by stopping by PA 1130, across from the bookstore.
