Students raise money for food bank

Second-year fashion students are getting in to giving back.

Students from both the marketing and design sides of the fashion program got together on Nov. 19 to raise money for the Interfaith food bank.

The event, held at the Stone, had a large number of door prizes as well as musical entertainment from the band Penny Fortune.

All proceeds from tickets sold go to the food bank but those who attended were also available to leave non-perishable food items at the door. In exchange for every item donated a door-prize ticket was received.

Troy Coutts, second-year fashion design student, said that there are many charities to help and the class decided the food bank was the one to reach out too.

“We decided that this was the way to help out as many people as we could with a singular event,” said Coutts.

He explained that it was also a way to show that fashion isn‘t as closed-off and unapproachable as people may think.

Shannon Mallett, a second-year fashion-marketing student, said that not only did the students have to put this fundraiser together but they also planned the project, picked a charity, got community support and found entertainment.

The amount raised is not yet known but proceeds from the tickets will be going to the food bank this week.
