Lately it seems that in my reporting I’ve been focusing on a theme: how to de-stress as a college student, the top five ways to make college more fun, in short how to make the college experience better.
Now I’ve found another topic for the more adventurous student that goes right along with this theme – the Candwich, a sandwich that comes in a can. It’s fast and easy, perfect for the busy college student.
Patented in 1999 by Mark Kirkland of Salt Lake City, Utah the Candwich has had a long, tumultuous journey to recognition.
Back in the ‘90s Kirkland teamed up with an investor named Travis L. Wright who essentially swindled $145 million from about 170 other investors to create the Candwich brand and increase the luxury of his lifestyle. Eventually he was found out and his business went under, leaving Kirkland back at square one. Wright has been sentenced to eight years in prison but U.S. attorney Mark Hirata plans to try and negotiate a new sentence.
But the Candwich has triumphed and will soon be marketed to the masses.
Most people when they hear of this invention will give the typical “ewwww” as a response but fear not, this is not something you drink. The Candwich is simply a sandwich made on a hotdog bun and put in something that looks like an enlarged soda can for preservation.
At first people were skeptical due to the meat factor but it’s been proven that the sandwich meat stored in the cans does not go bad nor does it make people sick.
While I may not be rushing off to find myself one of these, since I’m not a huge sandwich fan in the first place, I’ve got to admit it’s a pretty good idea.
First of all they’d be really easy to take of the way to class. Just put in in your book bag and you don’t even have to worry about it getting squished which is always awesome because when your lunch looks like road kill or you if have to eat it through a straw, the meal just seem to get a little less appetizing.
Whether or not I ever see one of these or you ever see one of these is still up in the air. However, I have to admit it would make getting packed on those mornings when the alarm clock just didn’t cut it a little bit easier, especially if you don’t live on campus.
