The Dark Side, Your Moon Sign

The second most important planet in a person’s astrology chart is the Moon sign (in astrology the Moon is considered a planet).

The Moon represents your “inner you.” The zodiac sign that your Moon is in governs your instincts, subconscious, private life, emotions, and past lives. It is your intimate self; only people who really get to know you will recognize the influence of your Moon sign.

In order to know your Moon sign you must know the exact time, date and location of your birth. I use astrotheme.com to calculate my birth chart. Since the Moon travels around the Earth so quickly I cannot give you a written chart (that will fit in this column!) for you to use.
I can, however, explain the influence the Moon has on your personality. As I explained in my previous column (which you can find under the ‘Blog’ section) your Sun sign represents your public figure. The Moon is the private you, shared with those who are close to you. The Moon is a very emotional planet, so it governs your emotions and intimacy.
If someone has a constant conflict between their will to act and their emotions, it is often due to opposing Sun and Moon signs. All zodiac signs hold different characteristics, but some have strongly opposite values that can create difficulties for a person in feeling unified. When you know both your Sun and Moon sign, and understand how it affects you, it can make these opposing forces easier to handle.
I find it essential to know both the Sun and Moon sign of the influential people in my life. I find out the Sun sign of people when I first meet them, and when a person has a deep importance in my life I learn his or her Moon sign. Knowing both planetary influences gives a more complete in-depth look at a person and how they function on a both an outer and inner level.
Some people do not feel comfortable with the full expression of their Moon sign because it is their instinctual self; it can feel uncontrollable. When a person is under stress these instincts will become more apparent.Do not be afraid of your Moon sign though; learn what it is and embrace it!
Your Moon is who you are behind closed doors, in the comfort of privacy. I encourage you to learn your Moon sign so you can better understand yourself. And don’t be afraid to share your Moon qualities with others. it is when we can open up with the people around us honestly that we find the freedom and confidence to be our true selves.
