The Fighter delivers knockout performance

Drawing obvious comparisons to other notable boxer-themed movies like Rocky and The Hurricane, The Fighter is more than capable of standing in a ring with its hands held high.

The movie delivers numerous award-winning acting performances and tells the story of boxer “Irish” Micky Ward and his family during the 1980s.
Make no mistake, this is not a movie about boxing, it’s a movie that involves a boxer.
Mark Wahlberg plays the role of Micky, a boxer trying to find his niche both inside the ring and out of it.
Wahlberg received Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for best actor for his performance in the film.
He conveys the feel of a boxer who contemplates a career in the ring while searching for the love and recognition he feels he deserves from his family.
Melissa Leo plays the role of Micky’s mother Alice, who attempts to juggle her role as Micky’s manager and mother.
Leo’s performance garnered her the Golden Globe for best supporting actress, beating out fellow Fighter actress Amy Adams for the award. Do you see a theme developing?
The final noteworthy character is Micky’s brother Dicky, played by Christian Bale. A former professional boxer himself, he trains Micky on how to become a great fighter but has to deal with his own demons outside of being in Micky’s corner.
Surprise, surprise, Bale won a Golden Globe for best supporting actor for this movie and stands out as one of the best acting performances I’ve ever seen.
I cannot remember a film in recent memory that has had this many quality performances, and it shows with its four main lead actors and director David O. Russell receiving Golden Globe nominations.
It’s a powerful film that encapsulates the human side of a professional boxer and his heart-breaking decisions while trying to maintain his family-first outlook on life.
This movie is pound-for-pound one of the best boxing movies out there and is definitely worth seeing.
