Lethbridge College hosted its annual Food Bank challenge last week. The Food Bank is an organization that accepts food donations for people in need.
The college added a unique twist to the challenge, engaging more students to support the cause. The Food Bank donation period was given the name, “The Hunger Gains.”
The event coincided with National Student Day as well. Student Experience employee, Michael Bartz, explained all the effort that went into the planning of this year’s event.
“It’s a fundraiser for National Student Day, which is tomorrow and we’re trying to raise awareness about that and were trying to raise food for the LCSA Food Bank and so we got teams together to participate in the games and they see who can raise the most food as well,” says Bartz.
The challenge, which was held in The Cave, got students to participate in a number of activities, such as obstacle courses, think tanks, puzzles and quizzes.
With the theme being “The Hunger Gains,” all of the employees helping out with the event mimicked the characters from the Capitol in the movie “The Hunger Games.” They dressed in bright outfits supplied by New West Theatre.
The event was a hit with the students, many enjoying the Pit Obstacle in particular.
“It was fun to just like crawl around and like try to find things and there was lots of obstacles so it made it difficult but it was still fun,” says Lethbridge College student Amie Machecek.
